Decoding Reach Direction with a Population Vector

An interactive notebook for the NEUR0016 lecture Spatial processing in the motor cortex and spinal cord. It simulates motor cortex neurons tuned to reach direction and decodes each reach with a population vector (Georgopoulos et al., 1986, 1988), then looks at how many cells are needed, the effect of correlated noise, and what happens when preferred directions are unevenly spread.

The notebook runs entirely in your web browser; nothing is installed and no data is sent to a server. The first load downloads about 30 MB and may take around 30 seconds.

Download the notebook (.ipynb) to run it in your own Jupyter installation (it needs NumPy, Matplotlib and ipywidgets).
